My good friend Sal is a compulsive liar, no ifs ands or buts. I came to terms with it, but lately it is just gotten out of control.

Whenever I invite him to parties or other things he lies and says he's hanging out with his "girlfriend." No one has met her, seen her, or heard him talking to her. Whenever I invite "her" to come too, they never can make it.

We're 21 years old, not 14, so isn't it time to stop the lying? I really feel like saying something about this to him because I will no longer consider him a friend if he keeps lying and declining my invitations.

What shoud I do?

Have you ever considered that perhaps you haven't met his girlfriend because he is in the closet and is attracted to the same sex. Come right out and ask him about his sexual preferences and if he is gay then you'll better understand why he chooses not to go out with you. And also this will show how good a friend you actually are by being open minded. If you offend him with this question then just explain why you asked it and ask him to tell you honestly why he doesn't go to the same parties as you.

okay, maybe i too should stop lying to my friends to get out of invitations. Have you considered that he's not the type of a party person and the only way not to make you force him to come on over is to lie. I mean, I like my friends but not their parties. So, I make up lies just to get out of it.

He's either a) trying to make you jealous, or b) he doesn't want to come to your parties
