I think uniforms are a very good idea.

I recently was able to visit a title one school, which is a school made up of primarily lower-income families.

I was surprised to see so many BRAND name clothing items. Almost all the children had on very expensive, brand name coats, shirts, shoes, jeans, and they talked about them and made fun of other students for not wearing them. I was overwhelmed. I have never seen so many high end brands. I am used to the burbs, and while certain colors (pink and green) and styles (shrugs, etc.) come and go, brands haven't seemed a big issue. (Lower cost brands like Target and Old Navy pretty much rule the suburbs.)

I think that having to focus on any clothing (style, color, or brand) detracts from the environment of learning. I also believe that in many households the money would be better spent on something other that a name premium.

My kids went to schools having no uniform codes and to schools that do. the schools in our ares without uniform codes are in a constant struggle with behavior, group associations and status quo. Most of the middle schools in this area have dress codes in order to defer from promiscuous behavior and social status issues.

When my kids went to a school with a uniform code, the environment was focused very differently from the schools that don't have uniforms. The overall academic performance was better. The kids stay focused on their learning, not on what kind of shoes or jeans somebody else was wearing.

The behavior is better. Conflicts between students are a matter of character and attitudes rather than who has what stuff and is that stuff good enough.

I live in a community dense in a mix of skilled labor and professionals. The average income for this area is $45,000 to $60,000 per household. I now home-school my kids, but if I were faced with putting my kids back in school, I would prefer a uniform code over a general dress code.

I think they should because some kids pick on some of the poorer kids in the school. The school kids split to two different main groups and the school isn't what it used to be before bullying came along. So yes, I think some schools should start doing uniforms. If not uniforms, teachers and students should start watching out for kids who pick on other because of a little stupid problem on clothing. they're just kids, they need defense, so if all kids wore uniforms, this problem wouldn't have to be concerned about.

Firstly, I think that uniforms are cool. Though some are kind of weird and there are some that are "not so nice", but it jsut gives a sense of identity.

It also discourage the rise of jealousy among students, discourage competition on how to dress up among young students.

And also uniforms does not separate students from wealthy femilies and not so well off families, which will also lower the self-esteem of those students who are not so well-off.

I have worked in schools that have had dress codes and ones that haven't and I will tell you there isn't much of a difference in the attitudes of the kids. Kids will be nasty regardless of what you are wearing. Even young kids can still tell whether you have money or not by just looking at the brand of shoes you are wearing. I don't think it really makes much of a difference at all.

No they should not wear uniforms because it might make them feel that they are the followers and they have to do exactly what the principal says like their master. But, yes it's good to wear it sometimes because they won't have different groups like geeks, bullies, and others. All the same. So, they are both good and good luck on your assignment.

In high school, I don't think students should have to wear uniforms because teenagers are quite into fashion and should have a chance to express themselves. However, in elementary and middle school, students should have to wear uniforms. It makes getting dressed in the morning much easier.

No. I think schools should give up with uniforms. Then parents could afford the books, dinner money, bus fares etc. They could save money with not having to buy uniforms.

No i do not beleive they should because it lets kids express thier emotions and how they feel. It separates them from eveyone else so they are unique. But when things start to get a little baring then school uniforms can come in handy.
