The natural world weeds out lazy species. You know, 'survival of the fittest' and all that? There may be lazy individuals within a species but there are no lazy species. Every group of animals (and plants) works as hard as they need to work to get the right nutrients to assure individual and species survival.

If something happens outside their control or understanding and hinders their ability to adapt to the change, then the species dies out. Examples of such are deforestation, gigantic meteor strike and/or rapidly changing climatic conditions. The fossil record of millions of years of biological life on Earth is FULL of such evolutionary dead ends.

Right now, as a matter of fact, we--humans--are responsible for drastically depleting the species of food animals we take for granted who live in our oceans.

Over fishing may harm seafood population
WASHINGTON - Clambakes, crabcakes, swordfish steaks and even humble fish sticks could be little more than a fond memory in a few decades. If current trends of overfishing and pollution continue, the populations of just about all seafood face collapse by 2048, a team of ecologists and economists warns in a report in Friday's issue of the journal Science.

There are no lazy animals on this planet. There are no animals that use up all their food supplies because nature has arranged for a balance between available food and those who need it.

But there are blindly greedy animals that refuse to live within their means as far as food consumption goes--and we are those animals.
