Origami, braiding, crocheting, knitting. I learned all these thanks to my telling my Mom I was bored. Crafts are always good, using a little loom to make potholders. Craft a small 'knitting' loom from an old spool and some staples and the using yarn. Yahoo is a great place to the instructions for that item. I had my little ones help me in the kitchen---COOKING! Yes, really. I let them snap beans and shell peas and use a peeler on carrots and they could eat and 'cook' at the same time. we made faces with the veggies and sang songs as we plopped the ingredients into the pot. My younger son always liked to mash the potatos, he said he liked watching them smoosh thru the masher. I've had them decorate baby food jars and then plant small flower seeds in the. Millet sprouts really quickly and the cats love to eat it. We made our own play-doh (a yahoo search will get recipes for this and there are some here on 'answers') We made masks and hats from old grocery bags and construction paper, no scissors just tear the holes as needed. A cardboard box presented endless possibilities...i just gave them each a box big enough for them to get into and some crayons....viola! a bus, a secret hideout......

Doings crafts. Use the world wide web to look up all kinds of different things they can make. It also depends on how old the kids are of course.. some don't want to color or paint, some want to play video games. Find a video game that is educational, or at least.. clean. That can be a chore sometimes. There are also great yahoo groups that have awesome ideas for what to help your kids make with simple construction paper, glue, glitter, crayons, markers, etc. check out groups.yahoo.com and look under crafts or kids and crafts. good luck!

I like moreacidthanalkaline's answer. My kids do this, and have stuffed animal wars. A simple all-age game is "Don't Spill the Beans". We have three kids age 13, 7, and newborn, and everyone but the newborn enjoys playing it as a family (the baby likes to watch, though). Other old fashioned games, like pick-up sticks and cooties, are great for kids and parents of all ages.

I loved to read when I was a kid... my first book was a Nancy Drew mystery that I found... turned out it belonged to my sister when she was younger. I wish I still had that volume - it was an older book with a blue cloth cover.

Just buy some of those cookie dough in a roll things. It's simple, easy, plus they can make their own shapes and stuff.
