In 2005, Romania remonetized and 10000 old Lei became 1 New Lei. Since there is no 50 Lei coin in the new currency, I assume that your coin is 50 old Lei. At the exchange rate of US $1 = 2.765 Romania New Lei or 27650 Romanian Old Lei, the face value of your coin is a small fraction of one cent.

You did not give the date. Romania has had a number of currency reforms and it might be an obsolete coin. They now use the New Leu and it takes 2.77 to make a dollar. Banks in the U.S. willl exchange foreign paper money but not coins, no matter how many you have. It may have taken 100 Lei to make a New Leu, not sure on that, but going by the book makes sense.
