I don't know if that has anything to do with philosophy, but have you noticed that people who help others out (even something simple like if someone drops something and you pick it up for them) tend to be happier in general?

Thanks for the answers!

Yes, I think so. Unselfish people are always happier, I think. Helping others improves our outlook on life, and helps us to be content with our situations. Also, the knowledge that something you do matters to someone else is very uplifting. We have done something to improve the little corner of the world we live in.

I help others because it makes me feel good about me.
If one feels good about them self they are usually happier about life in general. Being happy is a much better way to go through life than being unhappy.
So helping others actually helps the helper.

There is great personal reward in simply believing you have helped another human, and for many this is reward enough. I once helped a blind gentleman across a busy city centre road, and his thanks made me feel good about myself for the rest of the day.
Philosophically, there is karma, or in American 'what-goes-around-comes-around', and the Taoist Chinese believe that that which benefits the world, benefits all, and will improve the world for future generations.

Yes. In helping others we like ourselves better. The best deed is to help others without getting recognition for it, it helps the giver on a deeper unselfish level.

Yes, I enjoy helping people. I feel like I have actually accomplished something.
Tis better to give than to receive. I truly believe that.

Yes, if the person who receives the help is someone who appreciate what he gets from others.

Sure. Don't you feel good about having done an unexpected favor for someone? That would be help enough.
