Three MOST MAJOR points:
It was first gun to fire without reloading.
It had more firepower, so it was more powerful.
It also had interchangeable parts (you could assemble it from different individual parts-even if one part is missing, it can be replaced by another). This was an influence in the automation of machinery.

Okay, I have to disagree with a couple of the other people who have already posted. They're on the right track, but they're a little off. Colt didn't produce the first pistol that could fire without being reloaded. There were already a few in production, though in limited numbers. Colt's innovation came from observing a part on a ship that revolved around a central axis. Before hand, multiple shot pistols/rifles used mulitple barrels (such as the "pepperbox" pistol) that either fired all the barrels at the same time, or you had to use a different hammer. He took the idea from a capstand on a ship and scaled it down to a revolver's use. This made the pistol smaller and lighter. Beforehand, most pistols were considered useful only for horsemen, since that's where the holster was kept out of neccessity. Colt was an innovator. Not an inventor.

He changed the world by trying to capitalize on this. He was a shameless advertiser and often employed military men, gave free weapons to Presidents, etc, to try to succeed in an economy that had no protection from the government from failing. In fact, his first endeavour with making a firearm failed. His original pistol company went bankrupt. It was only after Col Walker from the Texas Rangers got with him on a redesign that he started turning a profit. This was the start of his "second" pistol company. Its been in continuous operation since then.

Colt pistols have traveled the world though. They brought the "Wild West" to the East through brocures and demonstrations, he sent products to Russia when they were still ruled by a czar, armed both sides of the Mexican Revolution, and was molded into the idea of what a "tough guy" carried. They've served in countless wars and scirmishes, served for law enforcement and criminals, and have become a poster for the quintessential firearm.

Oh, and just to let everyone know. Not all countries recognize our right to own firearms. And to be even more precise when it comes to the United States, the Constitution doesn't say anywhere within it that we have the right to bear arms, freedom of press, right to gather, etc. All of that is mentioned in the Bill of Rights, the first ten Amendments of our Constitution. And secondly, the Constitution nor the Bill of Rights give us the right to bear arms. The actual lettering states that they recognize that they are rights given to us by God. They can't be taken away nor granted by any government. It's already there, we just need to realize it is basically what the Bill of Rights (and further amendments) is saying.

Samuel Colt's Revolver changed the world? remember all all countries have a constitution which state that everyone has a right to bear arms. So how would this effect for example Europe? Africa? Asia?

I'm not sure, but I'm betting it has something to do with being able to take more than one shot without reloading. Earlier pistols only fired once. Imagine the difference in a duel of honor!

If I'm right on this, it changed the world by making it easier to kill more people in a brief time.

It did save a texas ranger's life. When a group of apache natives attacked him his single shot rifle was not good against a group of natives. But his Colt's revolver made it sound like there were more ranger's since the natives never encountered a gun that could fire repeatedly.

It was the first multi shot pistol that did not need to be reloaded between shots. It was also an exceptionally powerful, cheap pistol that most people could afford. It was so popular that Colt now makes several pistols, and is the number one supplier of rifles to the military today. (The m- series is made by colt. i.e m16, m60 etc...)

Most Americans were very liberal until the 20th century. They helped each other build farms, they worked together for the common good, and they did not try to throw everyone in jail who disagreed with them like modern conservatives. The conservative view of history is just 20th century propaganda and it has nothing to do with the way real people ever lived.

It gave more effective protection to the average citizen, as well as increasing fire power in the military. It was one of the first weapons designed to fire more than one cartridge at a time without reloading. I hope this helps.
