Baseball players to get those powerful wrists and forearms do a special exercise...I watched an interview with Roberto Clemente 40 years ago, when the reporter ask him about his incredible powerful arms, Clemente showed him how baseball players do it...You can buy an expensive set or you can make your own...

Of course this was back in the old days..LOL...But, Clemente had a 12 inch section of a broom handle with a hole drilled in it, a rope about the thickness of a laundry line was run through the hole and attached to a weight...What you do is hold the broom handle in both hands, out in front of you, then just using just your hands/wrists you roll the weight up and down...Start out light even 5lbs will get you started, then as time goes by move up in weight...

You do that for a year and you're going to have forearms like a blacksmith!! I started when I was 12, by the time I played HS ball my forearms looked like popeye. This was back in the days when ballplayers didn't lift weights...I would suggest you don't "over-do" this type of exercise...A well rounded weight lifting regimen would be more beneficial to your game...

I'm not saying don't do the exercise, I'm saying don't over-do it, mix in other weight lifting...Another great exercise for ballplayers>to strengthen your throwing arm is to attach a bungy type cord to a wall at shoulder height, then while standing, take the cord in you throwing hand, face away from the wall and stretch the cord out in front of you, the cord should stretch to the length of your reach with light not great resistance, vary the motion from a punching type(slow) motion to one of a more natural throwing motion...If you want to be a really good player don't forget the legs and work-work-work on the fundamentals, and just as important do them correctly...Practice does not make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect..Good Luck

It is a loaded question in todays baseball environment. Steroids would be a common answer, but there are still many athletes who do not take them, and work their tails off and eat right, and do the things needed to grow their muscles naturally. If you get a chance look at an old Steve Garvey picture or card. His forearms were huge. Arm strength gives you much better bat control. Players with great arm strength have broken their bats on check swings.

It's gotta be Cal Ripken Jr., former SS for the O's. While I am a huge Rangers fan, the O's are the team I was raised to love and support. From the second I was born, my dad was probably whispering in my ear all the great accomplishments of Cal... He had a great work ethic, he played hard, he respected his coaches and teammates, and he always stayed after games to sign autographs. We went to his HOF induction ceremony last year... It was surreal. Everyone was saying that he and Tony Gwynn were two of the greatest gentlemen to ever play the game, and I agree. They were both class acts. Cal has and is still inspiring me to persevere and do my best in everything I do. =D

Roberto Clemente had one of the best throwing arms ever. He strengthened his arm by squeezing a rubber ball. Hand strength is also important for swinging the bat (or stopping the swing as well). There are hand devices with springs that can be used for this.

Well, I will be a contrarion and say it's not the roids. Rather, I know they do extensive forearm curls, reverse barbell curls, and a lot of wrist lifting.
