Is expressed milk that has been frozen and then thawed in the fridge okay after 48 hours or is that pushing it. Mind you that that 48 includes thawing time. It was completely frozen when it entered the fridge Thursday and it will be fed to my child this evening.

Thawing breast milk in the fridge is the correct way to do it. Once it is thawed you have 48 hours to use it. So yes it is completely safe to give to your child. As far as all the protein and stuff being removed I have never heard anything like that before. I have 3 kids and always froze my milk for daycare or parents night out and my doc never told me anything about it being in any different condition then when it was first expressed.

i would say that is just the right ammount of time, dont go longer than that. And good for you for thawing in the fridge. NEVER microwave milk. It kills all the nutrients in the milk, making it pointless to feed your baby. Actually, microwaving does that to ALL food, I'm amazed they are still allowed to sell the suckers, but thats beside the point. Its ok to microwave your food, because you most likely know the risks that have come to light in the news lately, but please dont give anything microwaved to your child. Its very important that they get all their nutrients.

Breastmilk is good in the deep freeze for 6 months,
good in the fridge freezer for 3 months,
and good in the fridge for 3 days,
my guess is that the breastmilk is ok to use.

It's OK for 24 hours after it reaches it's thawed state.

that's fine, i'm not sure on the exact times on how long milk should be left in the fridge but you should have gotten a pamphlet with your breast pump that has the times in it. Check it out.

I would keep it frozen until you need it then just put it in a cup of hot water.
