Most young people in developing countries shy away from teaching because it is presumably not attractive enough.

To be a *good* teacher is a calling... to want to help children, to educate, esc. Some people who are called and not, well, the summer vacation is attractive. Also, although the pay isn't great, it's stable and in this economy, thats a big plus. Add a good retirement and benifits package and you've got yourself a decent living.

But, like I said, a lot of people who go into it *just* for those reasons are the kind of teacher that everyone hates.. the mean teacher, the apathetic teacher. The good teacher truly has a calling to do what he/she does.

It's a paying job with health benefits here in the United States. It's also extremely difficult to get fired from teaching.
