Covalent bond share electrons, no ions are formed (no charges). This usually happens with elements that have 4 or more electrons in their outer shells (H being an exception).

Ionic bonds are between atoms that have gained or lost electrons, giving them charges(+ and -). The joint to become neutral.

Hydrogen atoms form covalent bonds with other H atoms as they are never found alone. N, O, F, Cl, I, and Br also to this.

Van der waals is a force that exists between atoms in a molecule.
