Our son is almost 2 months old and is passing hard bowels. Almost the size and shape of a small egg. Silly putty consistancy. He's also been put on good start soy formula to lessen his puking.

It sounds like the baby has had a formula change. Formula usually produces firmer stools than breast fed. Breast fed babies have more frequent and looser stools than formula fed. This does not sound abnormal to have putty like stools after introducing soy or a different formula. Also normal for baby to make all kinds of red horrible faces when pushing out stool. He/she just exercising his muscles. You may gently massage his tummy or bicycle his legs but NO laxatives w/out pediatrician's order.
Good luck to you ! Enjoy your baby !

I'd at least give your doc a call. My son (40 mos) has had issues with constipation since i stopped breastfeeding. i switched formulas, and the problem continued. my doctor instructed me to give an ounce of prune juice mixed with an ounce of water or stage one prunes or pears. however, your child is a little too young for this. consulting your doctor is by far the best thing you can do at this point. its a problem that sounds all too familiar to me, and i hope you get it resolved soon, for yours and baby's sake. good luck!

My baby didn't start having hard BM's until she was about a month into eating solid foods (about 5 months). He may need a formula change. Talk to your Doctor about it, I'm sure he can help sort it all out.

It's the soy formula. My son does the same thing occasionally. As long as it's coming out and he doesn't seem hurt by it, it's ok.

why not breast feeding? (that would be the best obviously). If it's not that he's intolerant or allergic to that particular formula (are you sure your baby isn't allergic or intolerant to the soy?) then it's gotta just be constipation. Do the doctors recommend giving your baby water at all? Sugar drinks will only make it worse. At a health food store you can get some supplement for babies called Jarro-dophilus or some kind of acidophilus supplement for babies and you can just mix it into the milk I believe. That good bacteria is good for the gut.

Ok. it seems that the poor baby is a big baby OK. But hard poop is not normal right now. Please refer him to a Doctor ASAP or if you think that maybe you can take in care without getting a MD, please try this, give him a small piece of prums OK

I would say try speaking to your pediatrician as every child is different and requires different nutritional diets/needs.
