All babies are different. The standard is by 3 months. However, "sleeping through the night" is defined by doctors as 6 or more hours of sleep in a row. Which means, if your child goes to bed at 8pm and wakes to feed at 4am, that is considered sleeping through the night (because it's 8 hours in a row)...if I have to get up at 4am to feed my baby, it sure as heck doesnt feel like I am sleeping through the night! My daughter is 9 months and still wakes once to eat. She's been doing it since 5 weeks old. All babies are different. By six months, they don't need to eat at night, nutritionally speaking, so you can "wean" them from night feedings, but many parents opt not to because they don't want their child to cry and it can be a frustrating and arduous process. Hang in there and remember this too shall pass.

It's different for every child I'm afraid. I was lucky; my son's been sleeping through since he was 6 weeks old.
Try and get your baby to have a routine at night; don't encourage too many naps during the day (but don't wake if he falls asleep by himself as that means he needs it). When it's bed time, give him a warm bath, then a feed in a room with the lights dim. Give him a cuddle and put him back to sleep.
If he wakes up and starts crying, leave him for a few minutes as he might just settle himself again. If he doesn't stop, go back in there and cuddle him again, then put him down.
Good luck and I hope you get a full night's sleep some time soon!

My oldest child is 5 and he still gets up in the middle of the night for a drink (heck even I get up to potty or get a drink). By 6 months most children will only get up once through out the night for a feeding. I believe the earliest age any of my children slept through the night (11pm-6am) without waking up was 3 months but it was not every night. With babies it really all depends on how full they are when they go to bed and having a clean diaper on when they fall asleep. Sometimes having a nightlight can help too because when they wake up and can see and realize that they are safe and they will put themselves back to sleep.

All kids are different, and even if they start sleeping through the night they might start waking up again. The good news is that as time goes on you are awake for less time and get used to it and don't feel sleep deprived. My daughter sleeps through the night more nights than not and she's 2 1/2 (years, that is). The best tip I have for not being so tired is to keep the baby right next to you all night (either in your bed or a co-sleeper) so you don't have to get up.

Like the others have said, it depends on the baby. But, you might be able to expect your little guy to sleep about five hours in one go within the next few weeks. When you're sleep deprived, five hours can seem like an amazing luxury. Good luck! I would not recommend letting him cry it out, however tempting it may seem. His tummy is still really small, he needs to eat at night. Even developmental experts who advocate letting a child cry it out don't recommend it until the child is six months old.

as a baby, my husband slept through the night his FIRST night home from the hospital, really scared his mom, lol.
Our daughter started sleeping 8-10 hrs/night at 3 months
my friends child is 3 and still wakes up at least once
The point is... ya never know. hope and pray! lol. every child is different and lots of things can affect their sleep. colic, stress in the home, what they eat, if they are having a growth spurt, etc.

Depends on the child! My oldest from day one she slept through the night. My youngest is 12 weeks old and she also sleeps through the night, she hasn't been home from the hospital for long maybe a week and she is already sleeping through the night. I was pretty lucky I guess!

Every child is so different, so it's hard to say. It depends on if you would be willing to let your little cherub cry to sleep. Sometimes they don't need fed or changed, they just need to realize that it's not time to be awake. We let our baby cry to sleep at about 3 wks old. It only took her a few days to realize that we weren't coming, and she would just fall asleep. But like I said every baby is so different. Some more stubborn than others..

my little girl has sleep thru the night since she was born, and she is 3months old now and still sleeps thru the night, i would recommend that you turn on music, tv and lots of lights, becuase a baby will star at the light and once they close there eyes for a minute then they will realize that they are tired, and if you get them used to alot of noises then they won't wake up so easy

My little brother started sleeping all night when he was 1 year old
but he used to take naps during the day.
now he is 4 years old and he doesn't takes naps anymore
However, my cousin still takes naps and wakes up early (he is 4 years old too)
So i guess it depends
