hth - hope this helps
g2g - (i've) got to go
ttul, ttyl - talk to u later, talk to you later
omg, omfg, zomg - oh my god, oh my fuxxing god, zoh my god (used by people who use the computer 24/7 and have no lifes--usually those who basically talk in internet lingo)
pwnage - ownage (means something is awesome...probably someone who can't type came up with this, since the p and o are so close together.)

and that's a lot of the basics. If you want to know some more, go here: http://www.netlingo.com/emailsh.cfm

[Key idea]...... THINK IN ABBREVATIONS:
L.O.L. - Laugh Out Loud
R.O.F.L - Rolling On (the) Floor Laughing
Y.M.B.J. - You Must Be Joking

Especially in an I.M, (depending upon how well you know, or are associated w. the person) any (commonly, off-the-wall) abbreviations will work.
WELCOME to your New existence! :-')
LOL
