It depends on if you're using MLA, APA, or Chicago formatting... and even then sometimes teachers/professors deviate from the guidelines.

Diana Hacker's "A Pocket Style Manual" is a great reference for any of those formatting styles. It'll help you with in-text citations, cover pages, etc. So if you can get your hands on one of those, it would be a great investment to make if you have any more research papers to write in the foreseeable future.

Devan is right that it depends on what's type of style is required by the assignment. In high school it is usually, but not always MLA.

To see the differences, try plugging what you have into the Son of Citation Machine at:

It supports MLA, APA, and Chicago formats (they're building on Turabian.)

In the bibliography.

Surname, other names, Title, Publisher, city of publication, year of publication.

In the footnotes;

Surname, other names, title, page number(s)

if you go to school, you might want to see if they have a website for writing bibliographies.
