Because TV lacks quality shows like I used to watch when I was girl. ie: Goodtimes, Full House, The Cosby Show, and Little House on the Praire. A lo of TV shows nowwadays give a negative message to kids ie: Laguna Beach, OC, The Real World, Girlfriends, etc. Everything is about sex and cursing now. TV, Movies, Magazines, music, clothing, etc. If the media displayed more class we wouldn't be having so many problems with our kids.

Because of the breakdown of the traditional family. When I was a kid all the mothers were home and they had husbands that worked. Dinner was at 5:30 every evening and there were very few excuses to not be setting at that table as a family together.

Our TV time was restricted to Saturday morning cartoons and Ed Sullivan on Sunday evening. WE spent most of our time playing and using our imaginations. We had lots of friends and rode our bikes and played softball....

People bought homes and lived in them for 30 or more years. I bought my parents home so I'm fortunate to have my same neighbors since childhood. WE have a great sense of community.

Today I see single parent homes where the kids are pawns in a bitter battle of visitation and custody. Lots of children have one parent who is completely out of the picture. They live at the poverty level while the missing parent may have started a new family that doesn't even include them. It's like they are disposable. No wonder kids join gangs to feel love and acceptance.

They grow up fast because they have to. They are preparing their own meals and are often in a latch key situation where they watch hour upon hour of television. Cable TV in the home and God only knows what they are watching...

Children are growiing up too fast, due to the lack of strong parenting skills in the home. Some parents would rather be considered a friend or older sibling rather than to have a child angry at them over an unpopular decision. This causes a lack of respect and rebellion when the parent does decide to stick by their guns. Music and movies do play a role, but only if you don't monitor your child. You have to be there in place of everything else, regardless of your schedule. Make time to be there for your kids and remember discipline and rules only make a better person. Correct your child at home. Don't let the get corected in the streets.

Parents don't care, many aren't even around for their kids, and many kids just want to grow up - so they start doing everything much younger. Also, parents now think that it's "normal" for kids to be having sex young, drinking, etc - and it's not. It isn't all about tv, it's more about parents actually being parents instead of worrying about when their next botox shot is.

I was never around television when I was a little girl and I still grew up faster than my parents AND I would like.

It's not about TV, it's about their peers. It's friends that influence people to get into dating and boys and clothes and etc. When I was a child I was harassed daily because of my race until I was 14. That really made me grow up and I continued after that, when I moved away and when I made friends, it was only then when I became obsessed with shopping and boys.

I think it is because parents are putting too many responsibilities on children. If a child is doing adult things they are going to feel they are adults. Children shouldn't have to constantly watch their siblings, clean the home and cook. They should make decisions on what time they are going to come in or go out. Those are decisions and duties for adults.

Around where I am the kids aren't the problems...its the parents. Kids in my area have to grow up so fast because their parents never did (like mine for example).

Did you really have a question or did you just want the opportunity to stand on your soap box? If you're so worried about what your kids see on television, TURN IT OFF or turn the channel. You're watching the wrong shows or you're unaware of the wonderful children's programming that still exists.

Not everyone has TV's in their house. I think it has a lot to do with the way you raise your kids.
