Don't you read the news and see how many people discourage schools to teach students how to use condoms and/or pass them out?

A condom is worthless if someone doesn't know how to use it.

None of the above. It is well known that adolescents have a feeling/belief that they are invincible and will live forever. While they know intellectually that condoms prevent the spread of disease, they think "it won't happen to me." Just like they know that smoking causes cancer, speeding on the highway kills and drinking and driving kills, yet they still smoke, speed and drink. They still do those things too. I don't think they are really that self destructive or have a death wish--they just think it won't happen to them, that they'll beat the odds.

Also, when it comes to condoms, many people, at many ages, complain that condoms are embarrassing to put on (cause they lose the erection while fumbling), destroy sensitivity and are the last thing being thought of in that moment of spontaneity.

So I see it as a belief that they don't need condoms and not thinking in the heat of the moment as well as embarrassment.

Many many young people do not know of safe sex practices and how important they are. Do not blame the teenagers, many parents and schools only teach abstinence and leave out much needed information. It is denial on their part.basically "what they don't know doesn't hurt them" It is ignorance on the part of the parents and school systems. Many argue that they do not want their child learning how to have sex in school, that it is a waste of their hard earned money, if they only knew how many of these children were already having sex and not knowing the precautions, if they only knew that this class may have saved so many lives and parents from the horrible reality of losing their son or daughter because of their own ignorance.

Ignorance. Stupidity. Guys think "I'm not going to wear one of those things. Condoms are just for punks. Birth control is the girls responsibility. I'm all about getting off." Girls think "If I make him use a condom, he won't like me or he'll think I'm a ****." And young people think they're invincible. Pregnancy/AIDS/whatever only happens to "other people". Consequences? What consequences? All boys should be vasectomized around the age of 12. All girls need a good smack about once a month.

1. embarrassment over purchasing condoms.
2. fear that parents may find said condoms with lecture/punishment to follow.
3. the opinion that you can tell if someone is "clean" by looking at them.
4. not wanting to stop in the middle of things to put on a condom.
5. lack of knowledge in the proper use of condoms.
6. feeling of immortality/invincibility.
7. lack of proper sex-ed ("if i pull out, she wont get pregnant").
8. the most difficult to refute...sex feels better without a condom.

First off, they are in "love" and they believe that thier "partner" is the "one" and only true love, and that they have NEVER been with anyone else...(yea, everyone believes that, right? NAW!)...

Second, they dont believe thier "partner" is DIRTY! "They looked fine to me!!!!!" (When they get thier first shot of what ever to arrest the disease, not cure, just arrest it).

Third, they are "hot and horny" and never figures its going to happen to them! Nor do they care, all they want is thier "rocks" off...

Fourth, it was only a "one night stand"...so, why bother going out to get one when I didnt have the time!!...

Fifth, its too much of a bother, I didnt want to use one because its like wearing a rain coat in the shower... LOL!!!

Sixth, Its uncomfortable... I dont get the "feel" the way, with out one... I want to go Natural...
And after a few months it falls off ;)

Ok, stupid, ignorant, dont care, want to give someone a disease intentially, spur of the moment, hot pants, it all fits, and its all wrong, but, with a teen and a lot of adults, they figure its a game of chance, if you can get it, then get it while the iron is "hot" and forget about any risk, I will deal with them in the future...(unfortunately, some dont have too much of a future after that)...

I wish you well..

Jesse

Because often they are not in serious relationships, rarely know each other very well and so will not feel comfortable enough in each others company to broach the subject of contraception. They have no idea what sex is actually about, they feel ok having various 5minute fumbles every week but are embarassed to discuss adult things.

all of the above..... a don't care attitude doesn't help either.
I always have some, offer to use them too if i haven't known the person for years...... but i still believe youngsters think they are just to stop the girl getting pregnant...so they only ever ask " are you on the pill".... serious education is needed in this country....in the USA it is actually COOL to use one and frowned upon if you belittle the use of one, shame it isn't the same here.

I think it is more about ignorance. When you ask a lot of teens why they use them they will say so they wont get pregnant. They are not fully aware of the diseases.
