I believe that it has. Militarily, the U.S. became the only dominant world superpower when the USSR collapsed at the end of the Cold War. Its policy is to maintain a military that is overwhelming dominant over its closest rivals. Economically, the U.S. has the largest GDP in the world. Considering that China and India each have around 3 times the population of the U.S., it is quite an impressive figure. The U.S. also has the 3rd highest GDP per capita. Culturally, U.S. pop culture is exported around the world.
Has the Golden Age already past? A lot of people get nostalgic when talking about their childhood in the 1950s, saying how much better things were back then. But I question that. Yes, the divorce rate is much higher now, but how many women suffered through life in abusive marriages trapped in them because social norms of the day prohibited divorce? Some think that moral values have declined, but what kind of values made people think that treating African Americans (or anyone, for that matter) as second class citizens was ok? Though the good comes with the bad, on balance I think that the U.S. has become a much more open and enlightened society.

If "golden age" means international power and prosperity at home, the golden age started after World War II and perhaps still continues.
