The Lakers are a lot better than they were last year, but I still don't see them being very competitive in the playoffs considering how good Dallas, San Antonio, Phoenix and even Houston will be by the end of the season...remember, the season just began and everyone is rusty right now.

As for the Knicks, they are probably the worst team in the East this year. Once they fire Isaiah Thomas and get a decent coach and trade away some of those ridiculous salaries, they'll end up a lot better...but it's going to take a while

About five years ago the news reporters were writing that the Knicks were killing themselves by handing out guaranteed contracts like candy -- it has proven true. Much like the SF 49ers bankrupted themselves for a long period, the Knicks have really put themselves in a bad place.

The Lakers? They look good! The elite teams in the west -- Dallas is hungry, the Spurs are aging, the Suns need the pre-injury Amare, the Clippers are still rising ~ and the Lakers look fantastic early on and still have a great coach (never discount Phil Jackson).

I've a feeling this might be the year for Dallas. Teams peak and teams ebb - you can see Detroit and the Pacers fading even now.

The Lakers could do very well this year -- they could go deep in the play offs.

Are you kidding me????

That's like asking if the Colts are for real after going 1-0, or if the Yankees are for real after going 6-0.

It's THREE freaking games into and 82 game season.

OH... and let's not forget that the Lakers beat two teams that will NOT make the playoffs in 2007 (the Warriors and the Sonics? You have GOT to be kidding me.)

Let's talk after 20 games or so. OK?

By the way... your KNicks will not suck nearly as bad as many think. The East is W-E-A-K.

The Lakers? 7 or 8 seed. The West is STACKED.

Suns
Mavs
Spurs
Nuggets
Clippers
Rockets

Are ALL better teams...

So the Lakers will battle it out with The Jazz, Kings, Warriors, and T-wolves for those final two spots.

I would say the Lakers are contenders, albeit a long shot they are still contenders. The development of Andrew Bynum is key. They were missing a post presence last year in the playoffs. If Mihm can get healthy and Kwame can continue to improve they can be pretty dangerous. Their one weak spot is at the point guard position. Smush is not really a point guard he's more of a combo guard. Jordan Farmar is more of a playmaker and I'd like to see him get more minutes. Since Bynum has developed so well I could see Kwame leaving town for a more experience point guard, but his trade value is low and they need his post defense, so scratch that. I can see them easily making it to the second round and possibly going further.

The Knicks made a good move releasing Jalen Rose, now they have to figure out how to get rid of the rest of the players. I'm joking of course. They need build around Frye. Eddie Curry looks great again. Francis of course was a bust like everyone knew he would be. Marbury is inconsistent, I would trade him for draft picks to be honest. They really need to rebuild because the attitude of the team and the locker room is a real mess. I like seeing Quentin having good games though, I honeslty thought his career was done after he left phoenix. They are still 2-3 years away from a low seed in the playoffs. Lots of fans want the Knicks to be competitive, I loved the knicks of old, Starks, Ewing, all those guys made for great basketball. Hopefully that kind of Knick's team will show up some time soon.

The Lakers look good so far, their role players are really stepping up without Kobe and they are playing very well. I think they will be a 6 or 7 seed in the playoffs. As for the Knicks, they look like a disaster. They need to do something, Starbury will cause problems all year, and Isiah is thinking to high of himself. He is not a good coach, and they won't do very good. Renaldo Balkman? Why?

the lakers are for real this year provided that kobe no longer has to carry the lakers on his shoulders. they have jordan farmar and all of them who can all pitch in and score and lead their team to victry. the knicks just suck.
