Apparently you don't stay up with the news..only yesterday (11-3) there was a report presented revealing the enlistments of officers and men.. the ratings were all high.. High school and college education was on a par with the general public.
Aside from that, nearly all service connected training establishes opportunity for very qualified employment when they get discharged........also, service time is accepted for credit when they decide to return to college.
There must be something right or the re-enlistments would not be so high. They are not only educated but have a devotion to their service and their country.. Something Kerry proved he had neither. He found the easy way out... self inflicted wounds.

That's not quite what John Kerry said . He said if they didn't get smart they would get stuck in Iraq . Kerry doesn't have much regard for those at home - but he has always slandered American troops - even those he served 4 whole months with in Vietnam . Kerry was wrong then as well as a lying traitor ; and he is still wrong ; and still a lying traitor . Do you think a man who is honored by the then enemy of the US for helping them win the Vietnam War against his own American troops -would be "right" in slandering our troops again now ?

I had close to twenty years including active duty with the Navy, and having been in the Naval Reserve, Army Reserve, Army National Guard of New York and Wisconsin and Air Force Reserve. Some reservests are in it for the "few dollars" they earn for the monthly drill and two weeks active duty every year. Of course, in order for the Commander-In-Chief to keep fighting his war, the "few dollars" has become many dollars. The same with the benefits; including death insurance. Now the widows at least have some money to survive on. It used to be that the inductee had the opportunity to buy insurance for his/her spouse to have. At $ 76.00 per month, even a monthly premium of $10.00 for a $ 10,000 policy was hard to make. In my case, I went beyond a bachelors degree and many in my units with the aforementioned components I was in, were college graduates and successful, whether businessmen, or educated farmers. I also believe Kerry meant well in his remark, but it came out wrong. I have two grandsons who jumped at the hiring on bonus. One is in the Army in Korea, and the other was not accepted. My history goes back to the Suez flare-up of 1956, the Lebanon invasion of 1957, The Bay of Pigs fiasco of 1963(I think)and many other incidents when our ICBMS and the USSR's ICBMS were in the ready state, not knowing whether civilization, as we knew it, would cease to exist. Did we receive any money for these? Not one dollar other than our pay, except those rating hazardous duty pay. If the draft was or is re-instated, I suspect there will be a disparity of non-educated versus educated draftees. However, the expendable, and that is what they are, constantly being blown up with the road bombings, are our peacetime Soldier and Sailor and Marine and Coast Guard person. The CIC has the audacity to preach to us the value of human life when he discusses how wrong it is to use fetuses for medical research even though the stem cell research shows promise in curing diseases such as Parkinson and Lou Gehrig's etc. The CIC expresses the indebtedness this nation has for the lost life. At least the next of kin gets more than just the flag that covered the coffin. However, if the Allied forces were out of Iraq and Afghanastan, the next of kin would not need the largesse of the US Government. The various states' National Guard, would be able to provide what need be to the Governors of those states, as they should in peacetime. The CIC declared his war and his troops won against Iraq. He should have withdrawn his troops and three thousand expended lives would still be alive. Many thousands of Iraqis would also be alive, and those who hate us so, would have been able to concentrate on building up the destroyed nation that went with losing the war.
Those in the military may be considered not too smart for being in the hot spots by those having never been in the military. Orders are meant to be followed, except in a Lt. Calley situation that was evidenced in Viet Nam. Unfortunately, those following the orders today, as they should be doing, are often ending their own life by doing so. I do not necessarily think Kerry would be a good CIC, but we need another, as well as a new VP and SecDef for sure.

Kerry didn't say that. He said basically that Bush was an idiot. The quote was taken out of context. Kerry is a decorated veteran of Vietnam. If you believe that he actually meant that our military members are not smart, your crazy.

Absolutely not! If you read the biographies of the top generals, they all have at least a masters degree in something. Many of the young enlisted men and women are serving to earn money for college which tells me that they have a plan for their lives and are willing to serve their country for a few years as a part of that plan. Those serving in the military are learning self control, discipline and respect, qualities I fear are not being taught to those sitting here at home.

Kerry was in Vietnam for 2 months and then shot himself in the foot to go home! (documented by eyewitnesses!) I think THAT IS NOT VERY SMART!!! Come to think of it...Maybe Kerry IS right! Maybe those in the military are not AS smart as others. That DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE DUMB...Just not AS smart as the ones that stay home.
There...Does that make the matter clearer for you?

John Kerry is and always has been a SEDH= Super Elitist Dick Head. He spends more more time with his foot in his mouth and when he doesn't his wife does. This time his foot is coming out of his butt.
Unfortunate, he isn't alone out there many in Washington DC are just like him a few even worse.

Kerry served in Viet Nam. He knows very well that some soldiers are extremely intelligent, and some are quite stupid. I think what he meant was, the more we learn, the more apt we are to stay out of situations like Iraq. Since Bush majored in beer pong at college, that's probably why we're in Iraq now. See his point clearer now?

absolutely NOT. I work with a former National Guard and SHE has her PhD!!!!! YOU go out on the battle field and strategize against an enemy that you cant discern and pick out and then see how frock!n smart these people are. Kerry is basically a traitor for what he stood for. he turned against the the men and women that fought with him to secure our nations posterity the right to be free and dissed all of the men and women over there that risk their lives every frick!n day to save his A$$!!!!!!! every waking moment is hell for them. friends are constantly dieing and getting blown up. the last thing they think about before they go to bed, after wondering how all of their friends and family, thousands of miles away are doing, is weather or not they are going to survive the next day. and in their dreams, they are tormented by the life they lead over there.
the mental toughness, the will power it takes to keep your mind on the task at hand and not focus on anything else, off all the things going on around you. the fact that you have to almost immediately dismiss that one of your best friends was just blown up right beside you, and keep going, in order to keep from getting blown up yourself. These people have to be stronger than anybody else, with the fate of their nation resting on their shoulders, and not completely SNAP under the pressure.
