I would like to think that people would rather die than break a promise, but the reality is that some people will promise anything to get what they want, While others fully intend to keep their word but the promise is more than they can handle. So yeah they do get lost in the wind.

Ten years ago my "word" was my bond, now every "word" has to be in writing and notarized, it is at the point that my wife and family take my "word" for it as a promise, so yes spoken promises don't mean a thing, today

Hmmmm.....
Promises drift on the merit of their speaker. If one is true and righteous, the promise will stand as stone. If one is flighty and false, it will float away as if on the wings of a butterly.
