I think the Italian football is more than u think, one thing u should know is their are two deffrent types of players, (1) a foreign player can exchange from Milan to Inter due to $$$ (look at the history of Crespo transfer fees "the worlds most expensive transfer transactions", but Crespo is not traiter or greedy person either because he never forced himself out of inter in 2003 (2) Italian home grown player like maldini, Costacurta can not change his jersey to Inter, its severe betrayal, or even Francesco Totti from Roma to Lazio, u can still sense that Del Piero said he will not change Juve even if they are relegated to Serie C1, about Inzaghi, he was bought from Atalanta to Juve, so it means kinda of not traiter but just Normal player because he was not rised in Juve youth system.
in spain u have to notice luis Enrique transfered directly from Real Madrid to Barcelona and Luis Figo Directly from Barcelona to Real Madrid.
i think players who r raised by clubs like giggs, scholes is similar to onees of italy like Del Piero, Totti, Bergomi, Baresi, Donadoni, and Pirlo was young at Inter but was forced out of the Inter due to their having of too many Midfield world stars during 1990s.
About A.Cole, limao he is disgracest greedy soccer player of all times, and we saw the way 18 years Lionel Messi Tunneled and outplayed him.

Hi!
There usually is a little bit of set back when this changes happen (like that "oh! I hate them" that turns into "OMG! he's great", that was mentioned above), but you have to remember that to italians, good italian football is good italian football, and that means, good football played by good players. No matter where they are.
Hardcore team-fans would be the least-welcoming of this changes... when players left their teams. When new great players from other teams come home, is "HAHA! Look who we've got".
Also, there are symbol players that DO NOT change teams, whatever the cause. This is the case, for example, of Alessandro Del Piero (Juve), Paolo Maldini (AC MILAN) or Francesco Totti (ROMA). Players like these are usually the heart of their teams and have been the heart for many years... So a change for them would be unthinkable! And very much unforgivable! As you may see, this is the usual case for the capitans.
In the case of players like Crespo (internationals), well... is not the same. For example, I think ANY Italian team will be happy to buy Kaká. There are also other italian players that get easily away with this... Cannavaro was in Napoli, then Inter, and The Juve. A little set back at first, but then adaptation.
Of course... we have to leave aside the "situations" like what Juve went through this year. You can't blame a team in that position for selling players to other teams. But pay attention: THEY DID NOT SELL DEL PIERO.
Now, what I can tell is harder for italians to forgive - or forget - is the fact that local players leave for another country's club. Take Cannavaro (now with REAM MADRID) and Zambrotta (BARCELONA). They have a had a hard time with italian fans. Sure, the Spanish love them, they are great, but I think Italians, and specially Juve fans are pretty hurt they left not only the ship but the country.
The Italian football industry is one of the World greatest, so it was - up until now at least - very unusual for italian players not to play in Italy (there are cases though... like Toto Schilacci who went to Japan if I'm not mistaken) but... as the Mafia says: you should wash the dirty laundry at home!
Goodluck!

If you are a player who has risen through the ranks at the club and owe pretty much all your career to it, then asking for a transfer to your rivals isn't going to go down well. See Ashley Cole and Sol Campbell (from Spurs to Arsenal).
If however, you are a foreign import, then the fans are going to be less bothered if you jump ship, unless you have made yourself a fan favourite and declared your love for the club, then jumping ship suddenly. Example, Eidur Gudjonson. Although he gave good service to Chelsea, the fans don't seem that bothered when he went to Barca.

i think english fans place much emphasis on the issue of loyalty on a player to his club and if a player leaves that clud for another one especially a big one, he is labelled atrator and isbooed at any given opportrunity so its just something thats inherent in the english game i think. but fans should treat players with respect and respect their wishes and also know that for a player its aprofession so there may be issue of money or being around people you like in most cases but sometimes a player may just get fed up with one club and would want to move on, not that his current club is not winning but that they just want some new challenge. look at the issue of galls going to arsenal, he was complaining that he was being played out of position and he even threatened to score an own goal if he was selected in the team, but look at where he is playing now at arsenal, the same left back position!

I was reading an article in the local newspaper today, and it stated that Italian football, unlike its English counterpart, is very rational and clinical, and the people treat it as more of a job. In England, football is a passion and a way of life. That could be the reason why Italian teams let players go to rival clubs so easily.

I'm italian so sorry if i make mistakes. In fact a lot of players had played for a lot of teams (for example Vieri) but the reaction is not so good. For example when Cristiano Zanetti went to Juventus Inter's supporters criticized him a lot and the same this summer for Cannavaro and Zambrotta (who went in spain), the fact is that it happends more with italian players that the others because people ovviously loves them more

It's really strange at first. I mean when the players first come to your club, you're all like "Oh I hate him, he played for Inter or Juve, I'm never gonna like him. Ever."
Then a few weeks later you're like, "He rocks, he's a great player. I love him."
That's what happened to me when Inzaghi came over here.

The Italian fans, despite their volatile natures, seem to take players as players, unlike british fans who see them a property, then traitors when they change clubs
