Interesting, but I think the truth lies closer to reality that he wanted to stay in the closet, repuglicans do not like to be outed,as repuglicans are not very tolerant of Gay's. When is the last time that Dick Cheney mentioned his daughter in a political speech. Probably about the twelfth of never.

Don't know, but the situation isn't unusual. Reminds me of a case in South Carolina in the 1970s - a state legislator was always introducing legislation against scantily clad manikins in store displays (e.g. with underwear and bra), reason being the deleterious affect on children. Turned out the guy had a panty fetish and was found to have a stash of them in his home.

Maybe he just meant it as a joke. You know, he was going to vote for it but he never got around to it. Then he saw how all the Democrats get away with lying, he thought he could do it too, not realizing that the Democrats are real professional liars.

No, it's because he wants to get votes, and saying what you think other people would like to hear is a good way to get votes.
