Degrees in any field from a reputable school are never "crap". But everything in life is an ART. A person can get a degree and be a poor practitioner.

Not all psychology degrees are crap, but if you go to a crap university you'll probably end up with a crap degree regardless of what subject it's in.
Don't let anyone tell you that psychology is a pointless field, some aspects of it have been discredited or have little scientific merit, but that doesn't make them uninteresting. Anyone who looks down on psychology as a complete pseudo-science is too narrow-minded to waste your time on.
I have a psychology degree from one of the best departments around, got to study with some of the more pre-eminent psychologists in various fields, and I loved almost every minute of it. For that reason alone, I'm saying psychology degrees aren't crap.
Oh, the word you're looking for is doctorate, by the way! ;)

I've met psychiatrists and psychologists and psychologists although less qualified appear to know more psychology. Psychiatrists just drug their patients. Do the degree - psychology is a fascinating subject and has lots of uses. Not only for helping people with mental health problems, emotional problems but also in the commercial world - things like viral marketing and memetics are examples of psychology being used on the Internet. Not to mention of course Human Computation! Read my blog there is a link to a lecture on Human computation - the video is fascinating.

I second the "they are jealous". I think the reason that psychology is considered easy, is because there is really no wrong or right answer to the questions. It is all a matter of interpretation, but you have to learn how to interpret the questions correctly! I did it as part of a Bsc. degree and it was a tutorial which everyone looked forward to. Really interesting, and it has come in very useful in life, unlike a lot of other stuff I had to learn! Go ahead do it and good luck.

I find psychology to be fascinating and took it in university. I always hear people say that too. I think they can be very worthwhile especially if you take it into a master's degree or higher. Any bachelor degree in my opinion doesn't get you very far these days.
That sounds good. I think as long as you have a serious goal in life to better yourself you won't end up with "crap".

If they know what Psychology is all about.....if they give a serious thought to it before making remarks, i think no body can deny the impotance of this subject.
psychology which gets defined as "scientific study of human and animal behavior". How can the study of something that we deal every minute and every second of life be crap ? as per my understanding Psychology has no boundaries....of application. wherever there is life there is psychology...with every breath in every organism.
this knowledge not only does make u capable of helping others...but can even change ur life for ever.....like it has changed mine and that of many others. It definitely makes the quality of ur health (psychological and physical) much better. its my personal experience that it has the potential to give you peace of mind for the rest of ur life (provided u apply it) !
good luck ! bye..

Psychology is a great degree with many uses! You can counsel, consult, do social services, therapy and work in special ed fields, geriatric, mental and behavioral health, the list goes on and on. Even bachelor degrees can get you jobs, but obviously it is well worth it to get your masters and even better to get your doctorate.
Good luck!

They may be crap but they end up with a degree and a good job! Fools. Do your degree - not for what others think of it but for yourself.
By the way they are not easy! Whatever people say, you have to remember names and dates, contradictions, eugh, gives me nightmares!

i think that whoever told you that psychology degrees were worthless was confusing psychology with sociology. Sociology degrees aren't held in high regard - psychology ones are.

Which people?
Well, if they say so, then it must be true, mustn't it.
An if it's the truth, why are you thinking about bothering yourself with the subject and the work (and there is a hell of a LOT of it) for a 'Doctorate'...?
Sash.
