He has had many bowel movements a day for a few months now. I don't feel like it is chronic diarrhea because it is not watery, just soft and loose. He doesn't seem to have other symptems, like bloating or gas either. He has just never really had solid stools. I'm wondering what is causing such frequent bowel movements.

Listen to me. . .my son had the same thing at 14 months old. He had a parasite in his lower GI tract. The short name for it was C-Diff, but I don't remember what it stood for. Call the peditrician, this may be serious.

My 16 month old son is the same way, he usually has 3-4 play dough like poops in a 24 hour period. I had it checked by a doctor and the stool sample came back fine. I think it is normal for our little ones to have frequent bm's. He has on occasion had diarrhea, but that was only before a new tooth broke through.

My son is 18 months old and some days his stools are loose and others they are just like an adults.I think it depends on what he eats.

I think you should definitely call the pediatrician, just in case. It may just depend on his diet also though - is he eating food that causes loose stools? I also have a 16 mos old and he has 1- 3 "normal" stools a day. I think that is pretty common, so like I said, maybe just ask the ped. as a precautionary measure.
