My favourite two quotes that spring to mind are both by John Mayer. “Life is like a box of crayons. Most people are the 8-color boxes, but what you're really looking for are the 64-color boxes with the sharpeners on the back. I fancy myself to be a 64-color box, though I've got a few missing. It's ok though, because I've got some more vibrant colors like periwinkle at my disposal. I have a bit of a problem though in that I can only meet the 8-color boxes. Does anyone else have that problem? I mean there are so many different colors of life, of feeling, of articulation.. so when I meet someone who's an 8-color type.. I'm like, "hey girl, magenta!" and she's like, "oh, you mean purple!" and she goes off on her purple thing, and I'm like, "no - I want magenta!"” I like this quote I guess because I can relate to it. I'm a normal person but I stray so far from the social norm that I find many people a tad predictable and boring. It kind of gives me the motivation to realise that not everybody is like that and to search for those few 64 colour boxes who make life so amazing. "The thing about death is that even the most frightened person on earth died. The guy who was scared to leave his house, the guy who was afraid of germs; he did it, he bit the bullet, and he was a pussy.. theoretically. I've been thinking, if they can shuffle off this mortal coil, then why can't I. So I've been thinking about when I do, I think I would look back and realise that all these book, songs and stories were all about nothing. I bet that's what happens, you get up there and say 'Wow. We spent a lot of f**kin' time worrying about nothing!'. So here's a song about making the most of each day while you can." I really like this quote because it just keeps everything into perspective. There really isn't too much to worry about in life except for the health and happiness of yourself and others around you.

"I see in Fight Club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see it squandered. Goddamnit, an entire generation of pumping gas, waiting tables, slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy **** we don't need. We are the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no great war, no Great Depression. Our great war is a spiritual war. Our Great Depression...is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires and movie gods and rock stars, but we won't...And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very...very...pissed off."

We have only this moment, shining like a star, melting like a snowflake. I forget who said it, but I think it's a great mantra, like carpe diem

Don't ask what your country can do for you, but what can you do for your country, and then don't miss voting on tuesday either party but don't cut and run.

If we measure how much we value life, solely by our dread of dying, then it may well be that we have no sense of its value at all
