One of the funniest books featuring sports is Rash by Pete Hautman. The protagonist is not 11, he's older. But it is very funny, and I think an eleven year old could definitely read it and enjoy it. It's set in the future (2070s or 2080s I can't remember which) and it just a lot of fun.

On the run or kiddnapped by the same aurther....i forgot the aurthers name thought but u can fuger it out and i know its a really good book!
