Sure. If they want to be sued! Unless they have police powers, (Regular city, state and county police type.) they are just civilians like you. The correct procedure is for them to ask you to submit to a search. You can tell them to go get, (Well, you know.) but they can detain you (And not by force!) until a regular law enforcement officer arrives. They are the only people that can search you legally, and have it admissable in court. I would have a bad neck pain right about now, and call a lawyer. Unless you signed the BS paperwork they intimidate you into signing. Then all is lost. If they do it again, (And I am making the assumption that you were not in the wrong.) you can take them to the cleaners.

Try not resorting to criminal behavior/shoplifting and you won't have this problem.
Try working and buying things like normal people do.
I've worked in loss prevention and I wouldn't call on someone and take the chance of being wrong if I weren't sure. It just leaves the company open to too many liabilities and me without a job.
You didn't get "tackled" for no reason, I can guarantee you that!
Stop being a disgrace to your family, a burden on my pocketbook as a consumer, a reason for retailers to jack up already inflated prices and act like you got some sense.
Maybe you'll learn something from this experience and stop playing the five-finger-discount game, to impress your weenie friends, before you end up in the big house being someone's butt buddy.

When I worked at WalMart this is what I learned. You can put stuff in your purse, in your pocket whatever as long as you don't walk out of the store with it then they can't do anything. I saw a lady with a shirt and the tag was hanging out the back BUT since no one saw her put it on they couldn't get her... If she wants to wear her clothes like that its her deal. They have to see you do it and they have to keep you in view. They can tackle you and take you to their office if you are trying to LEAVE with merchandise. Also you will be told you can't go in WalMart anymore. Its hard for them to know if you go in other WalMarts though our loss prevention lady rotates through several area store for that reason. Good Luck... Those five fingered discounts will get you in trouble.

They have a right to reasonably approach and detain anyone they think is shoplifting. If you were trying to run out of the store to avoid them, they might tackle you. If you believe you were unreasonably detained or handled, first contact the manager at the Wal-Mart where you experienced this and lodge a formal compliant. If you receive no satisfaction, contact a lawyer and ask him/her if you have a case. Most offer free consultation.

You were on their private property. If they had reason to believe you stole something, then yes, they had every right to do this. If you didn't take anything then I'm sure they'll offer you some kind of apology and possibly a discount. Not that they have to.

Yes, if they have reasonable cause to believe you shoplifted something from the store. Usually they're pretty good at their jobs and won't risk the job or the store's reputation on a whim.
So ... what did you take?

this is a place that could make you artwork at distinctive shops quite in lots of cases. Walmart makes use of their cameras greater for LP than relatively human beings. in case you think of it sounds thrilling, understand that area of the interest is random inventory in sections at the same time with rings. uninteresting.

Only if you left the store without paying for something!! It isn't considered shoplifting until you walk through the doors.

They can only "tackle"you if you were trying to run out of the store.Other wise get yourself one of your parents to advocate for you and get a lawyer. Theft does not justify assault

The simple answer is YES.
The law in America is very specific on this. They can do whatever they want.
