80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.

I've come to two conclusions recently:

1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.

First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.

Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.

The reasons are :
1- what you can achieve by living , you may not by dying.
2- very few are remembered after they die...specially those
made a difference while they were alive.
3- everyone is born for some very special reason; only the
ignorant will never know.
4- life is a challenge for great souls; others may choose the
easiest route....

There are more, BUT if this has not inspired you, know that only YOU can inspire yourself and help others cope.....think...

This is a favorite quote of mine from Martha Graham, the great modern dance legend:

"There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening, that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique."

There is no one else like you-- never has been, never will be. Your presence in this world is a one-time deal, so find your voice and share it. I find that the things you love to do and are drawn to are big clues as to what your place in this world may be.

I suggest that you give yourself a hopeful name, if I could rename you, I would name you "Hope". Read, watch listen and think about everything that gives you hope. Think about how you can help others.

I try to live a life pleasing to God. I fail frequently but remain dedicated and delighted by the task. Other motivating factors are my husband and my son. My joy in life increased exponentially when I canceled cable TV. I also increase my joy with both learning and exercise.

I can recommend a non-sacred book,
"Man's Search for Meaning" by Victor Frankel

i live to make others happy. i live a most miserable life when u look at it from a outsiders point of view, but to me everything i do helps others. i make my parents proud, encourage and play a respectable role model for my sisters, and take good care of my family. my friends come to me for advice for everything and i do everything in my power to help other ppl better themselves and their lives. at the same time, however, i neglect my own needs. i am barely alive and from an outsiders point of view i have nothing to live for. but i do. i live to make other people's lives a bit better every day. i offer all my energy and advice to ppl, strangers or not, so that maybe just maybe, i can make a positive influence in their lif- THAT is what i live for.
