De juro, the religion should not affect the government or its policies in India, it being a secular state. But de'facto, all policies of the various government have been influenced by religions. Hence the people have been deprived of a good government, a just government, right from 1947.
Mr. Nehru got Hindu code bill passed because he thought there are many obscurantist practices prevalent in hinduism. He got the daughters of hindu families rights in parental properties. He banned multi marriages for hindu youths and dictated monogamy for theml ike in many western nations. But he dared not ban poly gamy for muslims. As if the muslim women are made of different chemical combination. It is here religion affected the policies very badly and we have as a result largest muslim population in the world to feed.
Mr. Rajeev Gandhi succumbed to the pressure of muslim mullas and did not allow divorced muslim women to have share in properties. It is again because of communal policy by govt.
Mr. Mulayam Singh favours Madarsas for education of muslims which is keeping them away from modern education and are breeding ground for terrorists, such as SIMIS. This all shows how religions influence our govt and its policies in India.
We badly need a rationalist like Mr. Bush or the French Govt to correct the errors of history.

Yes. in the name of religion the politicians spoil the country. BJP is termed as communal. They support and talk Hindutva and involved in controversies like Ram janamboomi etc. The so called secular parties just to keep their vote bank in tack they support the minority religions like Muslims and Christianity. Due to this dirty politics the functioning of government is affected and the politicians have good time. all these political parties are fit to be banned in India.

Very good question.actually the answer is not very simple.it is that we say and we believe that we are a secular country whereas leaders themselves divide people on basis of religion better known as vote bank politics.it is like bal thackery has power because he says hinduism is greatest and in india people are very much emotinal towards their religion and when some says that he is disrespecting your religion people would do any thing to save the grace and this force is used by some so called leaders.
