No, lately I read that scientist have proven girls start periods when they reach a certain weight and that weight is around 105 pounds. This is the reason a lot of anorexics lose their period when their weight gets low.

Also, when did your Mom start her period. The age of menarche is to a degree genetic.

Onset of menarche is genetic, nutritional and environmental.

I had a friend who was 18 when she started.

I would'nt be too worried, especially if you're an athlete. You need a certain amount of body fat to start menstruating, so if you are pretty thin and athletic, it may just take you a little while. Don't stress out that you're abnormal because you are not, even though most women start around 12-ish, I think I was probably 12-13. If you are truly worried, talk to your doctor about it.

No, not abnormal (I was 14, small, thin). If you have otherwise normal secondary sexual characteristics (breasts, hair, etc, you know what I mean), everything is probably pretty normal, esp. if you're athletic and thin.

You might want to talk to a doctor, however, just to be sure that you're all right--and that doesn't mean you'll have an internal exam at the appointment, either, so you don't have to be afraid.

Don't worry but, I'll give you a hint. Do see a doctor, a female doctor if you prefer but, your going to have to get regular check-ups pretty soon anyway, nows a good time and then you can ask her. Good luck

you are fine. i got my period when i was 17. your body isn't ready yet. You are lucky that you haven't gotten your period yet. That way you don't have to worry about it.
