Its November 4th, and I have yet to see any Remembrance Day poppies for sale in any of the shops within a couple of miles of where I live. I always wear a poppy at this time of year, but I can't buy one anywhere! Is this some kind of childish political statement on behalf of the shopkeepers?

P.S. Where I live, being one of the most Politically Correct cities in Britain, you can guarantee that the local council will hang out all the flags on December 1st for "AIDs Day", and, if I was of so inclined, I could buy a red ribbon just about anywhere. In fact, I'll probably be questioned by a council snooper as to why I havent bought one.

I've seen them in my local library and they're also selling them at my work - they are out there.

I don't see what problem people have with remembering the suffering that soldiers endured during two world wars, it doesn't seem very pro-war to me?

I don't like the poppy, as its more than just a remembrance of those who died, its a tacit approval of the wars that they died in, and the acceptance that they died for something glorious, when war is a waste of humanity, and should not be glorified. WW2 was a necessary evil, when faced with the spectre of Nazism, but say WW1 that was merely a chess game by the imperial powers of Europe, in which ordinary people were just the disposable pawns, and shouldn't be glorified

I've seen them in Argos today and sellers in two local towns. The British legion has lots of older members these days from what I can see locally and for a long time our armed forces has been very much smaller than World Wars First/Second and Korean/Suez conflicts so not so many are leaving the services and joining the legion.I believe you do not have to have been in the military to be a member now but I have seen people collecting for them who have not been.Maybe you might find a few hours to help ,it would be very appreciated.

I don't know, I bought one from an old soldier stood in the doorway of Sainsbury's the other day. poor thing he looked frozen so I gave him a fiver and he gave me a huge smile and a huge poppy!

I think they should be on every till at every high street shop and supermarket at this time of year, they can manage for Breast Cancer pink ribbon badges, so why not Poppies?

Save them having to rely on the old guys every year, they should be inside with their feet up.

I got mine yesterday. But I agree I havent seen very many places that have them this year.
Maybe it is down to lack of support.
I dont support the war in Iraq but I do support the British Legion.

It is possible that they are short of volunteers in your area. They do have a website where you can support the poppy appeal (and if you were inclined, become a collector).
