I usually just give the food and not the water that it was soaking in. Sometimes I forget and let it soak a little too long and it clouds the water and I would rather not add dirty water to the tank. But if you wont forget about it and if it is easier for you then you can just add the water too. When you soak the food though take the water from the tank not the tap.

I have never heard of soaking food for Betas, even though my ex-husband raised all sorts of tropical fish ( sometimes for breeding). Even though this is not an answer to your question, I would like to share with you what I do for my Beta. I have a Beta, His name is CAT STEVENS. He is very special to me for sentimental reasons. I'd Like to have him around for a long time. I have him in a bowl with a bamboo plant. He eats the stuff off the roots of the plant. The water never needs to be changed, though I still do it every 6 weeks or so. I only feed him about once a week, just to give him some variety. The plant loves his droppings & It thrives with him in there. It is so very easy!!! And like I said, he is very healthy.

First time ive ever heard of having to soak dried food.Im assuming you mean dried flake food?If so only feed it a couple of flakes/pellets about once or twice a day, anything floating to the bottom will only cause waste in the tank.

What are you soaking? I feed mine all types of freeze dried foods and never soaked a one. They seem to eat it just fine and are all doing fine. So no need to soak..?;)~
