Just think of all the water we would save not to mention not having to go to bars anymore to meet people for sex.

Sure why not...if people don't like the idea or are to frigid or uptight or whatever...they don't have to go.

As far as some people saying it would spread more STD's, it may, but there is such a thing as personal responsibity you know. I have this creeping suspicion that STD's may be the earths way of bringing back some natural selection to this world. (IE, if you are too stupid to use a rubber, then you get weeded out..or if you are too stupid to protect yourself when having sex with your boyfriend that you know deep down inside is not faithful, then you get weeded out.....Don't worry, I know I will get thumbs down for this...but think about it.)

What gives me the thought that the bath thing and the saving of water is probably in all reality the absolute last core of any idea that is anywhere near what you are getting at with this question ??
If it is wholesale sex in the streets that you're after
just come right out and state the fact without all this "saving water" nonsense.....
Sounds like this--finding the action you're looking for in bars --- isn't working out so well for you and you're beginning to try the getting creative thing here---well-- they tried it---and it didn't work out--- that's why it doesn't still exist-- except in some very gated and exclusive communities in California

In point of fact, they often didn't. While they used the same baths, they did NOT use them AT THE SAME TIME OF DAY (at least, during Republican times - as the Empire came up, some baths were "co-ed"). In other places, there WERE separate facilities for Men and Women - depended on the community.

While Roman attitudes about sex were very "loose" (take that either way), they also (generally) believed in being very discreet. Of course, there WERE exceptions.

O tempora, o mores! ("Oh the times, oh the morals!").

You mistake "Bathing" with the cleaning of the body...in Japan for instance public baths are everywhere one cleans oneself BEFORE one lounges in the water...sex is NOT a part of public baths. Think swimming pools, what do you think they are but public baths?

Actually, if we were used to seeing each other naked in public, it'd get to be less of a sex thing than it is now. I mean in some countries nudity on TV is common enough to not be worth comment, but here it's all "OMFG a BOOB!" so we snicker & point & think dirty thoughts. I guess in that respect we're the teenagers of the world, heh.

Back then there was no real concept of germs. scrubbing your viral or bacterial infections off in my water does not sound pleasant to me. I was a lifegard at a pool for a few years and have seen some nastiness in my pool, thank god for chemicals. why were on the subject of the Romans, lets all wash our clothes in all our communities urine as well.

I don't like the idea of bathing in other people's water.

this would be an incredibly irresponsible thing to do... There a were a great deal of things that occurred in Roman society that we shouldn't touch with a ten foot pole!

People wouldn't go for it. Even the cheapest efficiencies have shower stalls these days. No one would use more time to LEAVE home, go to the bathhouse, undress, bathe, dry off, groom, redress, and then go back home.
