What is the storyline to gears of war?

Humans live on the planet known as Sera. Humans are strung out and the planet is in dissaray due to a civil war over an endless power resource called something like "immulsion" (not sure on that). Then on emergence day as they're calling it, creatures arose from underneath Sera, which is strewn with thousands of caverns. I forgot what they're calling the creatures. They're highly intelligent, but hugely affected by light due to living in darkness. There are several forms. Humans were nearly brought to extinction on emergence day. The COG (i don't remember what it stands for either) is the government or authority that sort of took over for humans and organized them. Humans relocated to a plateau made of solid granite that the creatures could not dig through, so the humans are safe for now. So the Gears of War is the title of the army fighting the creatures, and since the numbers have been dwindling they started using prisoners to fill the ranks. And that is the main character i think, he was put in prison for insubordination or something. And yeah that's about all i know, i don't know all the details for sure but thats what i got. best of luck....two days till its out!
