I love to read books, too...welcome to the club, girl! Don't worry about it. Reading opens up a world unfamiliar to our own & takes us away from reality.

Suprisingly, many people find that reading actual books is a waste of time and I wonder why myself. I love to read and often wish that I had more time to do so. I don't think that these complainers realize that you increase your vocabulary, strengthen your comprehension and keep your mind active with reading. Perhaps, they don't feel that reading is presently important, but, in the long term readers will be the great thinkers, speakers, and those less prone to developing Alzheimer's and dementia.
Ignore the non-reading masses and know that you are cool and smart, because, you do read!

Anyone who would mention anything less than more power to you to an intelligent reading person is a complete retard. The television sets people are so addicted to constantly have scene changes. These constant scene changes do effect the memory and cause the attention span to lessen. Those who read books are actually smarter as they spend more time paying attention and being consistent with their work. A television is only a retarded box which makes young people very naive.

I go through this a lot. I like to read and I am a collector of books. Most of the people who make fun of this are people who do not have the patience or imagination to make it through a book.
In other words, if they can't see what is happening in front of them on a screen, they have no interest. I say it's their loss.

Because people who don't read don't have much to work with other than ridicule. Readers might know how to use intellect, logic, reason, creative thinking and so on, but uneducated people can't do much beyond pointing and laughing. Pity them, tell them you would like to listen to their idiotic comments some time, but you are busy doing something important at the moment.

Because those people are jealous of our capacity to accumulate intelligence. They make fun of things they don't understand and will never have the aptitude to understand. The pursuit of knowledge through reading is a very honorable quest, something that the Neanderthals among us will never understand(the Geico commercials aside).

I believe it comes from the stereotype that people who read tend to be anti-social. Also, the people who make fun tend to be jealous and ignorant.
