no but they know their are pretedors out to get them thats why all animals try to attack you if you hurt them

No. Humans are the only animal that has a concept of death. Brains of animals are all hardwired. Pure instinct. Sex. Food. Flight. "Anthropomorphism" is the term used to describe how some so-called experts attribute human emotions to animals. Chimps, whales, dolphins, elephants, are all supposed to have human-like emotions. Horse-pucky. It's just the way they are. So toss the crab in the boiling water. He doesn't know from "pot", or "boiling" or "pain"..."ouch! ouch! ouch!"

Crabs don't have much of a brain. Doubt they have a concept of death - or anything else. However, animals have a way of "giving up when their environmental conditions suck, death is inevitable or if their reproductive imperative is fulfilled. If this is non-feeding thing, could be an imminent molt or could be a water quality issue.

they are not cognitive of life and death, BUT they do know when stress is affecting them and they DO suffer like any other living organism
