It depends on what you are more interested in!
Medicine will definitely give you more secure job prospects, but only if you have a genuine interest in and desire to practice medicine. For that reason, and because it is an extremely competitive course to get into, some people will perceive medicine as being more valuable, but you should choose your degree based on what you want to do and what you enjoy, not on what other people think.

Don't believe anyone who tells you psychology is a worthless degree (especially if they can't spell psychology). It doesn't lead into an obvious career path in the way a medical degree does, but it's not worthless. Some people might see it as a 'soft touch', easy course, and there are people out there who breeze through a degree with no real work and universities that offer poor quality degrees - that doesn't mean that there aren't extremely challenging and interesting courses out there and plenty of bright, motivated students who excel in their fields.

It's true that psychology has its problems and flaws, but so does every social/life science - life is messy that way. In fact, medicine faces some of the same problems establishing credibility as psychology does. It's a massively varied and fascinating field - sometimes the lack of interdisciplinary co-operation is fascinating, sometimes it's just frustrating! It's not a dull subject to study - if it is, you're being taught wrong!

I'll admit I'm biased in as much as I *have* a degree in psychology myself, but I won't belittle medicine either. It can be a highly rewarding career for those with the right aptitude and attitude, and it requires a tremendous amount of hard work. Hats off to those who make it through - we have a much more pressing need for doctors than we do for psychologists, and I'm grateful to those who do choose to study it. It's a much more applied subject to study than psychology, and if you're more interested in taking a practical, hands-on sort of approach it might suit you better than psychology which tends to be a lot more academic.

So, after all that, I don't think you can say one is better than the other! You're still quite young so you have plenty of time to decide, and the qualifications you'll need to study either subject are quite similar - although you can do a psychology degree with limited experience of science and maths, I'd definitely advise you take biology and possibly chemistry too (definitely take chemistry if you have any interest in fields like neuroscience) - so if you make sure you have a strong scientific background you could apply to either course when the time comes to choose.
Don't forget, you can also opt to do a psychology degree as an undergraduate and then do a postgraduate medicine qualification - you'd get the best of both worlds and probably have the makings of a great psychiatrist!

They're not even in the same realm...do you want to study and practice psychology or medicine? Or are you talking about a PhD (Doctor of Philosophy)? Maybe you should try community college first and get some prereqs out of the way before you decide on anything :)

If you want to help people it would be medicine. If you want to screw with the heads of idiots, and become and idiot, then Psycology. I think Psycology as taught in our colleges is one of the worst things to have been inflicted on this country
