I think about 3. My favorite book was a book at my grandma's house called Mysteries of the Unexplained. I used to scare myself silly reading stories about ghosts and aliens.

I was three. My mom would set me down with headphones on and I would listen to a record of my books. hehe. I began to associate the words with the sounds that way. My favorite was an old copy of Dick and Jane.. how many people remember those? As I got a little older (abot 5 or so) I was reading chapter books like Little house. I think the one book I remember most as a child was Little House in the Big Woods. That one always stuck with me.

I was about 5 when I learned how to read. When I was younger, I loved the Little House on the Prairie series, the Bearanstein Bears and The Babysitters Club books. I pretty much read anything, but my love of reading started when I was young!

I honestly can't remember not being able to read (in kindergarden, my teachers would put me on a stool and have me read the Weekly Reader to the rest of the class). My mother read to me from birth. I have a book of Raggedy Ann Stories from my great grandmother with the inscription "To a little girl who likes to read" - it was dated when I was 6. The first book I remember was "Cat in the Hat" by Dr. Seuss. I still have it, although it's in pretty bad shape. My aunt gave that to me when I was 2. My favorite books were mostly series books, including Secret Seven by Enid Blyton, Trixie Belden, Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, and The Black Stallion by Walter Farley. At age 7, I spent most of the summer living with my cousin. Since she had control of the library card, she made me read the entire Black Stallion series before she let me check out more Trixie Belden books. I've always been a voracious reader - at 10 my mother gave me a Harlequin romance novel ("Don't tell your father!") because I wouldn't stop begging for a new book. My grandparents had a small collection of books for the kids, and I remember reading "Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel" and "Harry the Dirty Dog" over and over. They also had a set of 10 books that came with the encyclopedias. I read through those books many times. They had one "big girl" book, a teen book from the 60's called "When Sara Smiled," that I read nearly every time I visited them from age 8 to about 14.

I'm told I was taught to read at age 4.

The earliest books I can remember reading were "One Hundred Million Francs" by Paul Berna (from France), and "The Racketty Street Gang" set in Australia, but I have no idea who the author was. Both of these books I read around grade 3. Please note these books were printed before 1976
