So an illiterate person is smarter than a literate one?
That's news to me...

You mean that no information is better than some?

No newspaper has the paper or ink to contain all that someone needs to know about the world around them, but it's a start. Local newspapers do excel at providing news about a community, things that you won't find easily in a nationally ciruclated magazine or even, often, on the Internet.

That would depend on several factors.
1. Is person A attentive to the world around him, including conversations?
2. What newspaper is person B reading?
3. Do you mean wise or smart? There is a difference, you know.
You may read the entire encyclopedia and be extremely smart, but you may not be wise. Only a fool would reject Christ. Obviously, there are many more smart people in this world than wise ones.

I disagree..

You know, it really depends what kind of newspapers. Some are informative, apart from just the news, they teach you a lot.

Reading nothing at all.. but maybe this man has other sources of information - such as TV.

So, it depends. But I believe, reading opens up the mind, no proper substitute for this.

interesting statement. reading broadens thinking and helps a person with skills of critical thinking, reasoning and comprehension of an issue. but, many newspapers are written at a middle school reading level and are vapid and biased.

generally speaking and based only on their reading preferences, i would say that the men are equal in 'education.' not choosing anything to read is not necessarily better than only choosing one thing.
isolated: is the man who does not exercise at all in better/worse shape than the man who only does one kind of exercise (only biceps or only calves)?

I could see where that might be true...
The newspaper is not the ONLY source for news out there... and certainly not the best, either.

i disagree. if you read nothing you know nothing about what's going on in the world. but if you read the newspaper you know what's going on in the world.
