it is a site you join to try to make the world a free library...what you do after you join is you read a book, register it with them, you put the registration number in the book along with a greeting telling whoever finds the book to read it, then go to the web site and register it, then release it....i have released like twenty books and never a one has been found and registered....

I am, although I'm not as active as I'd like. I've been fortunate - several books that I released have been registered. The very first book I released was found by someone who not only registered, but joined and became very active in releasing her own books.

More people should check it out - it's a lot of fun.

I belong to Bookcrossings. I think it's a wonderful idea. One time I found some books that a bookcrosser had left at the laundromat. I registered one and released it again after reading it.
Probably most people who find the books don't follow through, but I feel sure they benefit from getting the free book.

I did join, but I stopped because I hated giving away my books. I'd rather keep them. Havent been there for quite some time - maybe 2 or 3 years.

I have just discovered SHELFARI instead - where I can show off my books without giving them away.
