Well we grabbed one as it seemed a good deal (& believe me we'd normally give said store a wide birth) and needed the extra room for our Mac mini (we have reformatted for Mac so it's been a good purchase so far). The unit is very quiet and looks great (7200rpm 8Mb cache for techies). We've already moved our iTunes library over to it. I've had dead drives from other manufacturers over the years but, touch-wood ,have yet to have a bad experience with seagate. We reserved online and picked up at our local store.

whats the score with the poem at the top of the page, mmm, anyway a 320gb ext drive is a bloody good deal considering i paid £69 for a 80gb freecom classic external hard drive so you have over 5 times the drive space for just £10 more
i must be buying my hardware from the wrong supplier(infact i got this from a shopping catologue so thats why i paid so much)
seagate drives are in the top three hard drive manufacturers alongside western digital and maxtor, and to be honest in my experience seagate are the most reliable
well done on a excellent purchase

Yes, and not really, but kind of. It started when I was 5 and drove a snowmobile for the first time. Then I moved onto ATVs and by 12 or 13 I was driving dad's truck out in the country. I was probably 14 the first time I drove on a city road, and I had my permit as soon as I turned 16 (minimum age in my state). My parents continued to teach me to drive until I got my license. The following summer they made me get a job at an overnight summer camp, so they didn't worry about me hanging out with my fellow teenage friends and getting in trouble. They didn't want to have to drive me back and forth to work- but because they pretty much forced me to work there they had to get me there somehow. My grandma just happened to have an unused car sitting around, so they gave me that for the summer. When camp ended and school started, they never asked for the car back. I think at that point they thought I had earned it- I worked the whole summer with only having a few hours off at a time. It was still in my grandma's name though- and it did get taken away for a week or two at a time when I got in trouble. I kept the car until I was 22 and bought a new (to me) car.

Yes its a very good deal, Seagate make reliable drives and always have done.

And if 320Gb isn't enough for you they are also selling a Freecom 400Gb one for £120, has a rather nice small matt black case with a silver front and it lights up the word 400Gb in blue on the front - rather smart.

sounds reasonable, but i find pc world are usually a bit of a rip off, unless its a special offer. Have you tried looking on ebuyer/ebay or even in magazines thats where i get most of my stuff.

Im think the first answer is from a complete nut case, whats she on??

i wouldn't say looks good in price, £80 ~ $152. if you get disk and enclosure separately it would be cheaper.
Seagate 320GB, SATA, 7200rpm, perpendicular recording, $95
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148140
External SATA disk enclosure with SATA and USB interface, $30
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817366007
+ shipping cost makes around $135

that's how i would buy that stuff, but i guess you're in the UK and i don't know of a good but cheap PC retailer there.
to answer your question, yes Seagate is a reliable brand for hard disks, for internal and external use.
