I will be there for two months starting Apr/07 on business. I've been there once already on vacation, and it was great, but I'm wondering what it's like to actually live there with regards to transportation, people, food, services etc.

Great public transportation. You don't need a car. April/May are nice months to be there. People are very friendly and welcoming. Great food, nice little restaurants all over the place. Stay away from coffee (drug) shops unless you are into stuff like this. The red light district guarantees a good time. :-) Make sure to take short trips to the coast, it's beautiful there! Enjoy. it's a great city.

You will love it over there, especially for the two months you will be there. Spring is my favourite time in Amsterdam, before the tourists come.

Transportation is fantastic, you will never need to have a car if you are living and working in the city.

The people (the Dutch anyway) are wonderful, they will always tell you what they think, and are unfailingly friendly and helpful. Be careful of some areas where some of the foreigners can hassle you

The food is nothing so special. I don't mean its bad, its just OK - lots of meat and veg but I'd never tried mayonnaise on my fries until I'd been there. I have to be honest, I developed a real passion for herring rolls and eel while I was over there.

Services are everything you'd expect from a highly developed Western culture............speaking of which, don't miss the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum while you're there - and try to get out into the countryside north of the city to Edam, Volendam etc. Its all very touristy, but very pretty.

Well organized public transport but dangerous for cycling. Very crowded, lots of people, shops, bicycles especially in front of the main station. On the business attitude, they appreciate if you come on-time for appointment and speaking straight to the point.

To me, the food are quite expensive. Self-cooking is better. Open market is available every week. Services are pretty good.

be prepared for the crowd with an opinion! it is crowded and you should comply to the Dutch way of doing things. If you plan to cycle in and around Amsterdam, wear helmet and watchout out for the trams! for 2 months, you should have a great time!
