Dont think it will get banned on enviromental grounds but I am supprised that it hasnt been restricted to just public displays and that selling fireworks in shops hasnt been banned given the never ending amount of accidents caused.

They wont ban it, its a tradition that goes back a long time, besides do you really think the police will be interested if some tree hugging filthy hippy rings up complaining hysterically because someone has lit a fire in their back garden?
There are lots of laws that the police deem to petty to even bother with (not officially of course), this would fall slap bang into that category.
Regardless of any law it wouldn't stop me having a fire and letting off fireworks - even if i have to make my own!

Bonfires are a way of celebrating, burning unneeded wood to help clear out the forests. I don't think anyone will ban it...I hope.

I hope they ban fireworks, except for organised displays,Just had to rescue our dog from a deep ditch in the middle of a farmers field after she bolted after being scared by fireworks.if ppl cant be trusted with them they cannot grumble if they are banned, after all would you trust a child with explosives?

I see where your coming from with this and i sort of agree that it really is hypocritical of us separating our waste, turning off that light, trying to lynch 4x4 drivers when we annually burn masses of just about anything sending huge clouds of smoke and fumes into atmosphere.
Either we are going to save this planet from oblivion or we aren't, there is little logic to having massive fires and all these fireworks anyway, all they do is cause deaths, injuries, damage and stretch the emergency services beyond their limit.
I love bonfire night but we need to look at the bigger picture.

Fireworks are illegal in the State of CA! and therefore should be banned elsewhere!
