In my opinion, it's a just a fad..like weird celebrity baby names.."Pilot Inspektor" for example...these babies are humans too, don't you think?

I doubt there's many celebrities that actually have the time or knowledge to properly raise a kid. And there's been enough natural children of celebrities who grew up screwed up because their parents were busy and/or on drugs, and then they wrote books about it. So yeah in most cases I think it's just a fad. Then again, if some celebrity actually wanted to adopt for the right reasons & with full intention of raising the kid right, it'd get thrown all over the media anyway since they can't take a dump without it getting on ET or something.

I think it is very sad that hundreds of thousands of American children are available for adoption and people would rather get infants from other countries. They defend this saying that at least in America, American foster children have a chance. They may have a chance but not much of one. They are usually forced to fend for themselves at age 18. Many of them end up in prison or mental hospitals. Our prisons are full of people who were raised by our lousy foster care system. A child is a child and if people really care about children, they will take care of the problem in their own backyard but I guess that doesn't generate much publicity.

My view is that a celebrity adopting a baby is just someone adopting a baby. I don't think less of them if/until they're clearly doing so as a publicity stunt.

I just hope that they are not in a Mommy Dearest situation. If these
so called stars stay married to one person for more than six months it would really be a miracle. I'm sure that most of them are sincere at the time they adopt, but I think that in most cases it is a bad idea.

they can adopt me.
a fad to be giving and help ?
if only that fad would last and spread..

there's too many people and too many without on the planet. if those with take in those without it becomes better for us all.!

is there such backlash because some dislikes that they are setting an example that would be HARD but good to follow?

I think its stupid. I think its even more stupid that they are adopting children in other countries. Why not make a statement and adopt an american child? They look just as cute as namibian babies and indian babies. Just put a cute little mohawk on him and a matching t-shirt and you'll be on your way to being america's most talked about celebirty.

It's just their way of "one upping" the other celebrities who have those damn toy dogs stuffed in their handbags. They are like,"you still have that dog? Well, look what I got last week."
Or, they are just too damned concerned about themselves to have to go through all the of the beginnings of pregnancy and childbirth So they just "buy" one that's alread born and half raised.
If the kid is an orphan, his/her life is already screwed up enough, what's being adopted by some self-centered, egotistical celbrity going to do to them.

At best its buying babies and at worst its intercontenental abduction. Take the kid Madona took. He has living relatives who desperatly wanted to keep him, but they couldn't. She pays the goverment and takes him home. If seh really cared about theat littel boy and his country, wouldn't she give money to families so they could take care of their children.

I mean, how traumatic. To be taken away from the places, people and languages you know to be paraded in front of cameras and passed off from nanney to nanney. I mean how much actual "parenting" will madonna be doing. Changing diapers. Potty training. Sitting up with im when he's homesick and crying inconsolably? I think not. She has tour dates to worry about.

I believe that if there is a child out there who needs a home, go ahead. But there are some celebs that i think they are doing it for publicity, like madonna for example, the poor kid is in the spotlight now, he's just a kid! But if a celebs intension is pure, i say, go right ahead!
