We wan to remodel our basement. To install and drop ceiling I need our piping that feeds our homes baseboard heaters tucked up in the floor joist. Right now the trunk line is 2.5 inch black pipe. I want to rip this out and put copper in, however the cost of copper right now is insane. Does anybody know if there is an alternative to copper pipe when usage is for home heating. I understand PVC can be used for hot water to faucets but is it okay for radiator heat? Thanks to all that respond.........................Highly appreciated.

while I understand your actual question....i am confused over the logic in doing this...along with safety. Its quite a big job ripping out a designed piping system....draining and all....and then making sure its safely installed per code...and yes there are other alternatives...but..hope you have a qualified person do the work

PEX is far superior to PVC for plumbing. If you are going to repipe your heating system with plastic see if you can use PEX. It comes color coded for use with either hot or cold water and it is flexible.
