When giving a Thumbs-Up or a Thumbs-Down, do you base your decision unbaisedly, by judging how well they answered the question? Or do you simply give a Thumb-Up to those who share your oppinion, and Thumb-Down to those who oppose it?

Feel free to give me your reasoning if I have not mentioned it above. I'm just curious.

a well-thought out idea, a well-defended position, an articulate answer, or one that makes me think of something i haven't thought of before all warrant a 'thumbs-up' in my book. i am impressed by those who make the effort (NOT the same thing as "take the time") to put a coherent or creative thought to the keyboard, and give it a voice to share it with all of us.

i'll almost never give a thumbs-down, but a reason i WOULD is because an answerer insults another person's questions or answers. i feel that there's no need for that stuff here. it's interesting to me to see how many questions (and people) have found a way to attract so many thumbs!

I tend to give them out to anything that is a good answer.
I try to be generous because I know it gives me a little thrill to see an old answer of mine has several thumbs up.
I give them to the best answers that did not get picked too and to questions. If they are poorly worded and confusing I will give a thumbs down. It takes being offensive, rude, or incoherent to get a thumbs down from me. Also if an answer has several thumbs down and I think it isn't that bad I give a thumbs up just to counter balance the negative replys.
sometimes I see where my question has gotten a thumbs down and usually all the answers do too so I think there are some people here who are down rating things just to be pests.
It's too bad they can't see how pathetic they are when they do that.

I do not rate the one liner answers because I do not think they are worth my time.

I like a well-reasoned argument. The other day I gave thumbs up to someone who supports the Death Penalty (I am strongly opposed) because he backed up his opinion with a good source on a particular case.

When I answer questions on the taxation site, I give thumbs down to those who clearly have no idea what they are talking about. For example:
Question "Can I get a deduction for mortgage interest and property taxes?"
Answer "Probably, call the IRS or H&R Block."
Now the question is fair (even though it gets asked a dozen times a day) but the answer does not help the asker one bit and deserves a thumbs down.

I try to not be biased.

When an answer is thought out and answers the question, I usually give a thumbs up.

When a question is obviously biased and the answers include name calling and bashing I will usually give a thumbs down.

I don't often give thumbs up/down.
You only get a thumb down if you duck the question AND say
something stupid or hurtful.
I will give a thumbs up if you answer the question fairly, AND
say something I agree with.
So far, the majority of responses fall somewhere in between.

I give a thumbs up/down based on what I believe to be the best answer which is fashioned by my internal belief system.

Read the question and ruminate.

I am only accountable for my own,but many choose with their belief after all most relationships have a lot of similar way of thinking.

It is rare that with with almost polar views to agree, but it has happened.

There those that are too sensitive and/or do not want opposing views.

I only give thumbs down to people who are rude or who say ugly things.
Intelligent answers are ok, even if I don't agree with them.

Depends on the question. Lots of questions ask for biased hateful answers, so thumbs down to those who resort to petty name calling.
