I'm wondering if anyone knows about this website, because I'm starting to think it might be some type of money-making scam.

Anyway, I wrote one poem a couple of years ago for my literature class, and it is pretty good. So I submitted it at Poetry.com for a chance to win $500 or something.

Then I received a letter in the mail from them saying it was "reviewed by their panel" and selected to reach the Semi-Finals etc. and it will be published in their book, "Immortal Verses."

They said I can buy a copy of the book for like $49 or something.

Is this just a scam? Aren't they probably writing ever single person who submitted their poem and telling them they are so great and they will go to the Semi-Finals etc. just so they can hope that person will be flattered and buy a book?

I don't trust them. I'm not buying nothing. Just wanted to see if anyone else knew something about them.

Technically, i guess they're legit.

But they scam people all the time. I've had several poems that they say have won, but I never respond.

A friend of mine paid, and her poem was sent in a book to her, but I think the other poems were fillers.

I wouldn't trust them, but that's just me.

Personally, I never trusted them. I knew at once the way the letters were sent that hey couldn't be serious. The letters all say the same thing, only they change the name of the poem title and author. After the first letter I kept getting more and more, asking me to spend $300 to go to a hotel where my poem would be read aloud. And then another offer for about a $900 trophey for excelling in poetry. I doubt their sincerity.

I have always thought it was a scam and I hope they don't have
rights to my poems I sent in so I can still write them and say they
are mine. I had a problem with not being able to edit for a spelling
error in the very first sentence. No matter how I tried they would
not fix it. Then they want all that money for the book your poem
is to be in but I bet if you don't send money it won't be in there. I
do have a friend who bought the book and her poem is the very
first poem in the book, which is so cool, unless that is a scam &
everybody's poem is first in their book.

I don't think they're actually doing anything illegal, but everyone I know who's ever submitted something to them has got the same results you did. (Except in my case I think the book cost $65. :P) It's really sort of a vanity publisher type thing.
