What types of cards do you have in mind?
Generally, there are two groups of items described as cards - extension cards and flash memory cards.
Extension cards provide some fuctionality, like graphics and vary by the bus type they are connecting to -
ISA, VESA, MCI - obsolete now
PCI, AGP, PCI-E - actively used
PCMCIA, PC-Card - for notebooks
Flash memory cards just store information, like floppy disks.
Most common memory card types - SD (Secure Digital, mini-SD, micro-SD), CF (Compact Flash), MS (Memory Stick, the family includes MS-pro and MS-duo) and XD (eXtreme Digital).
