You are having unprotected sex and the concern is getting pregnant? not VD
the pill makes you gain weight? Still not using protection.
I see your priorities in life.

It's not really a question of the odds, it's a question of: what would you do if you got pregnant? If I told you the odds were one in ten, and you were the one, how would you feel and what would you do?
If you're not prepared to accept any odds worse that you'd get with a coil (about 1 in 100), then right now you're gambling.
Some GPs can fit IUDs, but if yours doesn't you may have to go to a clinic. The Family Planning Association has a good page about the coil: http://www.fpa.org.uk/guide/contracep/iud.htm#7.

I'm surprised your only worried about getting pregnant. What if you catch something a cream or pill can't cure. How can adults lecture teens about unprotected sex when the AIDS/STD message is falling on deaf ears with their parents generation. I'd go to the doctor for condoms not a coil if I was you.

My mom got prego @ 45 after no monthlys for 2 yrs & I have a 45 yr old brother today as that result.
My mother-in-law got prego @50,no periods for 5 yrs prior. That result is my husband.
You can get pregnant,so go get a tubal or the coil & until then use a condom for safe sex in every catagory of your well being & peace of mind. You must take responsible control of your sex life.

The odds are not particularly high, but what does that matter if you don't want to become pregnant. You are rather old to be taking chances! You should get your partner/s to use condoms. Coils are horrible things, and won't protect you from STDs.
Ps Troubledjoe, don't know how old you are.... but believe me lots of us are having loads of sex at this age.... 1'm 49 and I cant knit!

I can tell you straight away that they will not fit a coil to someone who has been through the menopause. However, there is a new type of pill that won't put weight on so discuss this with your doctor. You could ask to be sterlised - this they would do.

Your just playing with fire if your still having your period you can still get pregnant. Just this spring a women who was in her 60’s gave birth. If you don’t want to take the pill there are other means of birth control condoms, diaphragm, Spermicide. You could also go a more permit route which would be to have your tubes tyed

I have the coil fitted and its great i have no periods, no pregnancy scares the only thing i can think of when you first get it put in sex can be a bit uncomfortable until it settles in. You can get this put in by the doc and its not pain full.
